110 years ago the Russian composer Peter Iljitsch Tchaikovsky passed away.Peter Tchaikovsky studied from 1862-66 at the Petersburg Conservatory, andthere he was also a student of A. Rubinstein. Tchaikovsky is known as thefounder of the Russian ballet tradition. One of his most famous pieces isThe Nutcracker, which premiered in St. Petersburg in 1892. Sincethen The Nutcracker has become one of the most popular Christmasclassics in the theatre world. The story evolves around Clara, who receivesa nutcracker from her godfather Herrn Drosselmeyer on ChristmasEve. In her fantasy Clara travels together with the nutcracker into a worldfull of fairies and toy figurines.
